“Courage-Choice- Change-Truth- Change Your Brain Music”

Rene Russell and the Bottom End is a percussive, Americana-Rock band formed in early 2018. Their new sound focuses on Rene’s unique 12-string guitar playing style and her original songs, which she calls “Change your brain music”. 

Her songs speak of her life experience and learning to live your truth. As she says;   “It takes Courage to make the Choice to Change your life and Live your Truth!”  The band’s performances are passionate, upbeat and moving with a little humor mixed in.  Their first Single and Video were released on April 23, 2018, the Premier show at The Windjammer on May 30,2018. They will be releasing more singles, as well as playing regionally, securing slots in key venues as well as fairs and festivals. 

Prior to 2018, Rene Russell was a solo performer who has been a part of many different music scenes from Nashville to San Diego, Atlanta to Austin, Texas, during which time she had the opportunity to share the stage with performers such as Indigo Girls, Tom Chapin, Jennifer Nettles Band, Danielle Howle, Michelle Malone and others. 

Chris Blackwell:  drummer/backing vocals, is also a writer, producer, arranger, master engineer, vocal teacher and multi-instrumentalist with 35 years of experience.  Though a native of Charleston, SC , Chris has been living and working in New York and Atlanta producing, mixing and mastering music in various recording studios for the past 25 years. 

Rob Nance: is a guitarist, bassist and vocalist from the lowcountry. Rob is a former music teacher and received his B.A. in Music Composition and Theory from the College of Charleston. Rob has performed with various local bands over the last 30 plus years.

Kris Manning:  is a percussionist with over 35 years’ experience playing music. From rock, country and blues to classical and world, That Girl Drummer happily plays it all. Her background includes a Percussion Performance Degree from the University of Connecticut and Music Composition Studies from the Hartt School of Music. She has toured Russia with John Beck and 13 percussionists from the Percussive Arts Society. She has also studied marimba with Leigh Howard Stevens. 

Kris specializes in hand drumming, drum set, orchestral percussion and mallet instruments.  She currently gigs in Charleston, SC with various bands, the North Charleston POPS and co-owns Black Tie Music Academy, SC’s largest privately owned music school.

Gordon Weest: Gordon Weest was born and raised in Austin, Texas. He studied music business and entertainment industries at the University of Miami. After graduating in 2014, he returned to the live music capitol of the world. As a multi-instrumentalist, record producer and engineer, his music takes many forms, and explores the evolution of electronic music in a contemporary setting.

Utilizing synthesizer and flugelhorn, he composes music and performs live, currently, in Charleston, South Carolina. His use of classical and jazz elements, as well as ambient sounds and programming, draws heavily on modern interpretations of popular music. He is currently performing with local projects, including Rene Russell and Chris Blackwell.
